Mark Abell
Partner, Sports Brand Development


Mark acts for a wide variety of sports clients on sponsorship, endorsement, licensing, franchising, agency, event management and technology issues.

Mark is the co-author of "Baghot on Sponsorship" and the author of a wide variety of articles on sponsorship, endorsement and related issues in journals such as Sponsorship News, Managing Intellectual Property and TradeMark World.  Mark is an expert to the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organisation on licensing and in this role has spoken across the world on the issues involving licensing, sponsorship, endorsement and related issues.  Mark's work includes advising the following clients:

  • Advising PETRONAS, a Fortune 500 corporation, upon all aspects of the design, development and build of its new 900cc Superbike and the creation, management and sponsorship of its race team, Foggy PETRONAS Racing. 

  • Also advising PETRONAS upon all aspects of its involvement in Formula 1 through its sponsorship of the Sauber team. 

  • Advising IMG, a world renowned sports marketing group, upon the development of a technology based golf leisure concept.

  • We have advised the owners of the Turnbury and Oxfordshire Golf Clubs upon all aspects of developing and sponsorship major competition events.

  • We have advised Whitbread upon its sponsorship of the Round the World Yacht Race.
